some new friends of kdon

November 28, 2006

This sunday I finally went to the Portobello Market… something I have meaning to check out since FOREVER. It was awsome, there are lots of cool Vancouver designers showing their great stuff and lots of friends to made as well. :) I love to meet other people doing what they love, making and creating beautiful things….If you want to support independant business people trying to make their way, I suggest going. Plus its a great place to do some Christmas shopping… for those of us that are already thinking that far ahead…. i know, i know its still a month away but I’ve decided to make this the year that I dont shop on Christmas eve. heh. You should try it too.. :)

I met Lincoln Heller, of fiveleft leather who makes awsome leather cuff, bags and his stuff is great…

I also ran into this great girl who makes sweet jewelry and belt buckles named Nicole Bigg. Her stuff is Christmas gift worthy… and.. totaly affordable, which is always nice when you don’t want to go broke shopping, but you also want to support the local artists. :)

There was also my buddy Hrissa who makes beautiful clothes under Elika designs. Keep an eye out for her stuff at different stores around vancouver as she emerges into the fashion scene here.

A long lost pal Amity and her business partner Justin from Spotted Cock were there selling their cute arm warmers made from recyled sweaters! They are the perfect gift for that cute, trendy person you have no idea what to get them. They come in a wide rainbow of colors and patterns, and trust me…. they are ca-hute!

I’ll try to keep you all posted on the other cool local people doing great things so we can all support each other and make a community of caring creative souls.

Until next time eveyone,

This past spring Evan Biddell of Biddell designs, Kris Krug of many things, Hrissa of Elika designs, and Kdon of Discollection got together some friends and did a photo shoot of some Biddell and Elika clothes. A small entourage of models, assistants and friends toured around gastown and created the ‘Fuck hair and Make-up’ shoot. Both models, Kdon and Lauren Glazier had no hair and make-up done… going against the grain….and the result was raw and edgy photos.

Kris’s spontaneous stopping in alleys, doorways and nooks, made the glamorous clothes take on a street worthy feel. It was totaly unique and fun. Smiles all the way, its always fun to hang with friends and wear beautiful clothes…

You can check out Hrissa’s clothes at the Portobello market, the last Sunday of every month. It used to be at Canada Place, but it’s moved for the winter to the big railway building behind Home Depot on Terminal.

Hey internets,

So Monday night was the fashion show for the WEAVE charity, and it was a success. Lots of peeps came out, and it was great to see some familiar faces. I have yet to find out how much money was raised for the cause, but will post it when I find out. Kris took some great shots of the clothes and models…… take a look below. My kdon line from Discollection was the show opener, and I even ended up wearing a peice in the show. ( not exactly my choice, but due to a “model shortage” I was left no option if I wanted my clothes out there)….  so it was kdon in kdon clothes. *shrug* there could be worse things i guess. :)

Since this website is new, I’ve got a bunch of stuff to catch you all up on… I know I know, you can hardly wait… so here you are.

This past August Kris Krug and I collaborated with Margie Torgerson, Shai Dhali and Petrina Torgerson on an innovative photoshoot in the alleys of Gastown. Margie got her hair done by Shai at Prepwork, after we met at discollection for styling and make-up. I styled Margie in outfits made from a combination of vintage and kdon clothes, Petrina did her make-up, and Kris lead us through Gastown…..shooting pictures all the way…. t’was fun. :)

Here are some pictures from the  shoot:

Made In VancouverIt’s true, yes, I am going to write a blog. You are about to witness the first kdon post on my new little website here. (insert crowd cheering)

So the long and short of it is, I make clothes. This fall/winter will be the launch of my first ever mini collection, which I am totaly stoked about. Fall is my favorite fashion season of all, getting cozy, wrapping up in warm fabrics, layering and the ever faithful knitted scarf makes fall joyous.

To catch a sneak peak of whats to come from my kdon line (and three other local designers), I ‘d like to extend the open invitaion to everyone to come to a fashion show. It will be held at the Alibi room(157 Alexander) on Nov 20, at 7pm.

It is a charity fund raiser for the program WEAVE. The cost is $15 at the door. There will be complimentary appies and an awsome dance/fashion show by the tomorrow collective. Other local designers participating in the showare mono clothing and hunt and gather, there are a couple others that have left my memory now, but I will be back to let you know.

I suppose this concludes my first blog. I’ll be back again… thanks for tuning in, unitl next time, stay cozy, be warm, get a 2 meter scarf and love your enemy. :)
