Vancouver Fashion Week is upon us.
April 18, 2008
Vancouver Fashion week kicked off this week with a bang on Wednesday night. Unfortunately I have been working each night week and have been unable to report up until now. If you want complete coverage of the fashion shows, designers and industry ins and outs head over to the conveyor belt, where the girls cover it all. I will however be in attendance the for the rest of the weekend, and am most looking forward to the emerging designers show on Saturday afternoon. For your convenience I’ve listed the remainder of the schedule for you, for the complete line up check out the Vancouver Fashion Week website.

The last sunday of every month is something to look forward to, as was seen last weekend at the Rocky Mountaineer Station. Portobello West had a two day kick off, and was jam packed both days with hundreds of shoppers and vendors. You will be able to check out my kdon booth, as well afew other highlights in my opinion…. Generation NeXt contestant Marcy Ross of Morena, knitting wonder Larry, leather maker genious, Lincoln of Fiveleftleather, my lovely booth mate Janet of Sedated clothing and the old German man that handmakes hats and sells them at the Londale Quay ( unfortunatly I can’t remember his name right now!) Portobello west is an awsome place to spend your money and feel good about it. All the vendors are BC local artisans that have propelled their ideas into reality, and there is no better way to support the local scene than to buy their wears. I hope to see you all down at the Rocky Mountaineer station, which located behind the Home Depot on terminal. Doors are open from 11:30 - 6!
Its been a number of weeks since the Northern Voice conference has ended but I still wanted to give a little recap of my experience.
The tiki dinner on the opening night was very lovely with volunteers, including myself, reading and sharing previous blog posts and samples of writing. Some funny, some heartfelt, over all a nice touch to the opening party of a geek conference. Also I have to mention the lovely ladies from lipgloss and laptops.. they completely hooked all the speakers up with mac products, and I being the complete mac feen was *so* exited to get the goodie bag. Apparently mac cosmetics donated a bountiful amount of products… how nice!

The next morning took alot of coffee to get going, but it was worth it as there were many awsome speakers that I just didn’t want to miss. A couple of them to mention are Dave Olson, Alex Waterhouse Hayward, Kris Krug, and Stephanie Vacher.
There was also lots of time to meet other people, get to know some of those familiar faces that I have seen at other events, and share a laugh with a friend or two. I am certainly no seasoned attender at these types of conferences, so my humble opinion may not carry much weight, but for what its worth, Northern Voice has been my favorite one so far.
Northern Voice conference brings artists and geeks together.
February 21, 2008
I would consider myself in the artist category rather than the geek category, however I have been known to play in both worlds. My lively hood is making and selling original kdon designs, and at the moment this is primarily done over the internet through well known sites like flickr, facebook and this blog. Conferences and meet-ups like northern voice have proved to be a tool in the success of my online presence, therefore creating and increasing revenue for my business. Northern Voice is put on by the lovely folks at Raincity studios, and attended by geeks from all over, including the states. It starts tonight, and runs until Saturday evening, there will be much talking, networking, learning and brain expanding going on. For more info, check out the website.
This year I have been asked to share one of my “most famous” (and longest), blog posts that I wrote this year, at the opening dinner tonight. I am excited and honored to share my world with others.. even if they are captive!
If you have come across this website for the first time, maybe due to links from the conference, I ask you to check out the pages of things for sale, and send some linkie love my way from wherever your url home is.
Thanks for stopping by!
spring is just around the corner and so is the kdon 2008 line.
January 29, 2008
All kdon clothes are designed with love by myself, aka kdon, aka Kim Cathers. I spend hours dreaming, sketching and looking for the perfect fabrics for my garments. My 2008 spring line looks to be another excellent blend of urban street wear and a swing back to one of my favorite era’s.. the 60’s! Mini dresses, bishop sleeves, apron tops, slim lines and clean cuts are just the start of my inspiration, this is a year you will want to stay tuned as the line is released, so you can be the first to get your hands on an original kdon piece. Thanks for stopping by today, I will keep you posted on the progress, and in the mean time you should pick yourself up a kdon hat before your favorite fabric is sold out. I usually only do small runs of fabric, so everyone that has a kdon hat knows they are only one of a few.
